Reviews and replies

Connect Claude or ChatGPT

Connect your own Claude or ChatGPT account to read reviews, draft and post replies, and send review requests by asking.

If you already use Claude or ChatGPT, you can connect it to Chiffchaff and ask things like "any new reviews?", "draft a reply to the 2-star one" or "ask Kim for a review, her email is on the receipt". The assistant uses your Chiffchaff account, so every rule in the app still applies. It's on every plan.

Connect Claude

  1. Copy the address on the AI assistants card in Settings → Integrations.
  2. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, click Add and choose Add custom connector.
  3. Give it a name, paste the address and click Continue, then Add. Leave the sign-in options Claude picks.
  4. Click Connect, sign in with your Chiffchaff login and allow access.

Connect ChatGPT

Adding Chiffchaff by its address needs a paid ChatGPT plan. On the free plan you'll be able to add it once it's listed in ChatGPT's app directory.

  1. Copy the address on the AI assistants card in Settings → Integrations.
  2. In ChatGPT, open Plugins, click Add, then Add custom MCP server. Give it a name, paste the address and keep Authentication on OAuth. Tick the box to continue and click Create as a plugin.
  3. Sign in with your Chiffchaff login and allow access.

What it can do

  • Read: your rating and review count, reviews by stars or site, replies waiting for you, how your review requests are doing, your monthly recap and whether your connections are working.
  • Draft and edit replies, in your reply voice and under the same reply rules as the app. Drafts count towards your plan's monthly drafts.
  • Post a reply. Replies to 4 and 5 star reviews post when you ask. A reply to a 1, 2 or 3 star review, or to a review that mentions something sensitive like an illness or a refund, is never posted by the assistant: it saves the draft and gives you a link, and you approve and post it in Chiffchaff. A reply that breaks a reply rule (a discount, a promise, a phone number) or that Google might not publish isn't posted, and the assistant is told why.
  • Ask a customer for a review, by email, or by text if they've agreed to texts. The usual rules apply: once every 90 days, texts only in the legal hours. See Ask a customer for a review.
  • Run the scam check and the Today button.

Staff can read through an assistant but can't change anything. Managers can do what their access allows in the app (Team and roles).

What the assistant sees

Reviews show with the reviewer's name as Google shows it, and customers by first name only. Phone numbers and email addresses are never sent to the assistant. What you ask and what it answers stay in your Claude or ChatGPT account, under their terms.

If something's not right

  • It's using the wrong person's account. The sign-in uses whoever is signed in to Chiffchaff in that browser. Sign out of Chiffchaff, sign in as the right person, then disconnect the assistant and connect it again.
  • "Open the app once to finish setting up your business." Your sign-up isn't finished. Open Chiffchaff, finish setting up, then connect again.
  • "AI assistants are turned off for this business." The owner turned off Let AI assistants connect in Settings. Ask them to turn it back on.
  • It asks you to sign in again. Someone clicked Disconnect, or you were removed from the team. Connect again if you should still have access.
  • It can't find a review. You only see the locations your access covers. Managers of one branch see only that branch.
  • "Too many requests." The assistant asked a lot in one minute. Wait a moment and ask again.

Disconnect

On the AI assistants card in Settings → Integrations, click Disconnect next to the assistant. It stops working straight away. You can disconnect your own; the owner can disconnect anyone's.

To stop every assistant for the business, the owner turns off Let AI assistants connect under Integrations in Settings.
