Checks before you approve a reply
How each draft is checked for what Google often turns down, what the warning means, and what Rewrite does.
Google doesn't publish every reply. It turns down replies that read like copies, carry links or contact details, or lean on stock phrases. Chiffchaff checks each reply for these before you approve it, so you can fix it first.
What's checked
Every AI draft, every time you save, and the saved draft when you open a review are checked for:
- Stock phrases that Google often turns down, such as "thrilled to hear" or "your kind words".
- Hashtags, email addresses and web addresses.
- Length: a reply longer than Google allows.
- Copies: a reply that's the same as, or very close to, one of your last 200 replies, including replies you wrote on Google yourself.
These checks run on our side and don't count toward your monthly drafts.
When something is found
Above the reply you'll see Google might not publish this reply. with the reasons in plain words. For a copy, it shows the earlier reply and when you posted it.
- Click Rewrite for a new draft that avoids them. It counts as one draft.
- Or change the words yourself and save to check again.
- Or post it as it is. The check is a warning, not a block, and it's your call.
Approve from the alert and autopilot
- A new-review email never offers a one-tap approve for a draft that fails the check. Its link opens the reply in Chiffchaff so you can look first. See Approve replies from the alert.
- If you've turned on reply autopilot, a draft that fails gets one automatic rewrite, which counts as a draft. If the rewrite passes, it's scheduled as usual. If not, nothing is scheduled and the review waits for you, with a note saying why.
What Google decides
The checks catch the common reasons, but Google makes the final call and can still turn a reply down for its own reasons. Once Google approves our access, each posted reply shows whether Google published it, and your dashboard shows Replies published this month with any turned down ones linked.
