Email requests and unsubscribes
What every request email includes, what happens when a customer unsubscribes or an email bounces, and why request emails can be paused.
Review request emails don't need a customer's consent up front, but each one has to let them stop the emails, and Chiffchaff honors that straight away.
What every request email includes
- Your business name as the sender, and replies go to your email.
- Your postal address. Use the location's address, or add a Mailing address for emails (a PO box works) in Settings → Review requests. Without one, request emails can't go out.
- An Unsubscribe link, plus the one-click unsubscribe that email apps like Gmail show at the top.
When a customer unsubscribes
One click is enough, with nothing more to confirm. From then on that email address gets no more review request emails from your business. Other businesses on Chiffchaff aren't affected.
The same happens when an email bounces because the address doesn't exist, or when someone marks a request email as spam.
On Customers, the Okay to contact column shows Unsubscribed from emails, and their page says they can't be emailed. You can still text them if they've agreed to texts, or hand them your QR code. Chiffchaff never turns their emails back on.
When request emails are paused
Email providers watch how often people report a sender's emails as spam. If more than 3 in every 1,000 of your request emails over the last 7 days are reported, with at least 2 reports, we pause your request emails so your business doesn't get marked as a spammer. While they're paused:
- Queued emails wait. Texts and QR codes still work.
- Owners and managers get an email about it, and Settings → Review requests says when it started.
- Your dashboard's Needs attention shows Email requests paused.
Only our support team can turn request emails back on, after looking at what happened with you. Email support@getblythe.com. A common cause is sending to an old list of people who don't remember you, so ask customers soon after a visit.
